Recreational marijuana dispensaries are cropping up in two Midwestern states. In Michigan, three Ann Arbor cannabis shops opened their doors December 1, with more to follow. Just over a year ago, voters approved a ballot measure legalizing marijuana, making Michigan the 10th US state to allow recreational cannabis. The state began accepting applications for marijuana business licenses November 1, according to the Detroit Free Press
In Illinois, which will be the 11th US state to legalize recreational marijuana, sales are set to begin New Year’s Day. The state has 55 medical dispensaries, and has licensed 29 of them to sell recreational marijuana.
