Update on Legalization in Wyoming

During the 2021 legislative session, HB 209 was passed by all committees. However, the marijuana legalization bill did not make it through before the deadline for the end of the Summer 2021 session in Wyoming. HB 82 is the legislation to legalize adult-use (recreational) cannabis. Both measures will be addressed in the 2022 session.

Getting Approved in Wyoming

Once medical marijuana is legalized in Wyoming, patients will be ready to apply for their medical card. But you can start getting ready now, by organizing your health information. Do you have one of the common qualifying conditions accepted for medical marijuana? Make sure your photo ID is updated, and get on a waiting list for your MMJ health evaluation.

Same-Day Dispensary Access

In most states, you can download a medical card or prescription right away. You don’t have to wait to visit your local dispensary. While the final legislation for Wyoming has yet to be passed and determined, you may be able to get a temporary card after being approved.

What Happens After Your Medical Card Evaluation?

Get Your Medical Card

The procedure of getting a medical card in Wyoming will be determined by the final draft of the legislation in 2022. However, after a patient is approved by a physician, they will apply to become a registered patient in the Wyoming medical marijuana program. Once approved, patients will be provided with either a temporary card or a permanent card by mail.

Visit a Dispensary

When medical marijuana is legalized in Wyoming, dispensaries will open to serve patients. This can take a little time to license and establish the cultivation and processing of medical cannabis products. However, your medical card and government-issued photo ID is all you will need to visit a dispensary and buy medical marijuana in Wyoming.

Save Money

Patients can save 15% or more on each purchase. Some people save over $500 a year by using their medical card. When Wyoming passes adult-use (recreational) legalization, patients with a medical card will pay a lot less in retail and excise taxes on every purchase. Your Wyoming medical card will save you money every month!

Get Priority Access

Remember during lockdown when businesses were forced to close? But essential services like doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies stayed open? Medical dispensaries are deemed an 'essential service' too, like a pharmacy. So that means people with a Wyoming medical card don't have to worry about running out of the cannabis products they need. The medical dispensaries will always be open, no matter what.

Schedule a Followup

Some states require regular follow-up appointments throughout the year. Wyoming may legally require patients to schedule regular follow-up appointments with a physician, to check on symptom management. It is still to be determined in the final legislation for the next session in the Fall of 2021. Regular follow-up appointments can help patients improve symptom management.

Renew Your Card

When you do receive a Wyoming medical card, there will be an expiration date on it. Pay close attention to that date! Email reminders are usually sent to patients registered in a medical marijuana program. But make sure you renew your Wyoming medical card before it expires. Or you will have to apply all over again, and pay more fees.

I was looking for a place to get my MMMP card. I found this site and they sent me to the AMMA Medical Clinic. I loved it. I was not there forever. It was a great experience, and I will be sending my friends.

Hello. I would like to say that I have had a pleasant experience with this website. They have been very helpful. I told them I was older, and they walked me through the steps I needed to do. Everyone did what they said. In today’s environment, that is a rare and good thing for people to have a genuine concern. Thank you.

I am so grateful for this site for giving me the information and referrals I need to get treated for breast cancer with [natural medicine] instead of harsh chemicals and radiation. I was guided through the whole process and I have been using the sublingual tincture with 1:1 ratio, and I am feeling fantastic.

Since Wyoming is moving to legalize both adult-use (recreational) and medical cannabis at the same time, there should be some tax savings with a Wyoming medical card. Most states tax adult use heavily, but provide a subsidized tax for patients. That helps keep medicinal marijuana affordable for long-term use.
