Special Considerations

You can consume or own concentrates in Fort Collins, but you can’t DIY certain types. The city only lets licensed producers make concentrates that include flammable material. As of August 14, 2018, Fort Collins will not take any new license applications. They will, however, let existing medical dispensaries apply for a retail license.

Marijuana on Federal Lands

It takes only a few hours to reach natural attractions like Rocky Mountain State Park from Fort Collins. But, while you can own marijuana as an adult over 21 in Colorado, you can’t on these lands. National parks and forests count as federal property.

The regulations that protect recreation and medical marijuana users don’t apply to these locations. If you plan to see the beauty that Colorado has to offer, don’t bring your medicine with you.

Do I Need a Medical Card to Shop at Dispensaries?

In Colorado, the two main types of dispensaries have different purposes:

  • Recreational Cannabis Stores: Patients over 21 can buy from a retail marijuana dispensary. You can find products that relieve symptoms, but not in high doses. These stores also have to charge a 15 percent tax on every transaction.
  • Medical Marijuana Centers: Medical dispensaries will only take patients with medicinal marijuana cards. Even if you have a 21+ ID, you must have a patient ID. However, these dispensaries charge a lower 2.9 percent tax and have an inventory meant for symptom relief.

Colorado residents can apply for a medical cannabis card to receive specialized services from a dispensary. Get an evaluation today.
