Cedrene is categorized as one of the most versatile terpenes found in the overall cannabis bouquet. It is believed to be originating as a natural ingredient in the essential oil of cedar which used to be directly derived from the cedar tree by the ancient civilizations of the Middle East.
People used to make use of the distilled oil for anti-bacterial or antiseptic and astringent purposes. It is mainly known for its aroma-therapeutic & medicinal value, contributing to its commercially wide usage in essential oils and perfumes. Cedrene offers a light woody fragrance profile.
The aroma in many strains of cannabis comes from cedrene which acts similarly to antidepressants. This terpene has anti-inflammatory properties, which when combined with cannabinoids in cannabis creates an entourage effect. Also, it works as a natural protection to the plant against fungus, bacteria and other environmental causes of decay.
