States are
responding to the vaping crisis with statements about the safety of the medical
marijuana products that they regulate. Most recently, the
Pennsylvania Department of Health said that legal and regulated marijuana
vaping products available to certified patients enrolled in the state’s program
are “safe and effective,” according to The Tribune Democrat of Johnstown, PA. The
state’s health department said that the products are regulated, produced in
approved labs, and tracked. PA has seen 47 suspected cases of lung injury due
to vaping. As in other states, the PA cases appear to be linked to black-market
vape pens, not legally obtained marijuana. The newspaper also ran a feature story on a
handful of residents who switched to marijuana after years of taking
prescription painkillers and anxiety medications, and were happy they did.
