Impotence

Medical Marijuana and Impotence

Besides treating the underlying causes of impotence, such as potassium deficiency or arsenic contamination of drinking water, the first-line main treatment of impotence and erectile dysfunction consists of a trail of PDE5 inhibitor drugs. PDE5 inhibitor drugs are used to block the derivative action of phospodiesterase type 5 on cyclic GMP in the smooth muscle cells that line the blood vessels supplying the corpus vaernosum of the penis. This treatment method has already been explored for the treatment of other conditions such as pulmonary hypertension, which is a disease found in blood vessels in the lungs that become overloaded with fluid.

Medical marijuana can be used in place of pain medications and other prescription opiates that are prescribed by doctors. Marijuana can work just as effectively if not more effective than many prescription opiates on the market. Conventional medications can reduce the blood flow to the penis that contains two cylinders of sponge like tissue, in which the blood flow to the tissue increases when an erection occurs. Medical marijuana however, does not reduce the blood flow and can work as a pain reliever. Cannabis is also a great anti-inflammatory and in some cases reduces sexual impotence and increases a user’s sex drive.
