Did you know that more than 50 million Americans live with daily chronic pain? Some of the most recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest that 1 in 5 Americans suffer from chronic pain, and almost 20 million patients have symptoms that significantly impact activities, employability, and quality of life.

When you have a health symptom that slows you down, makes movement difficult—or a mental health condition that is preventing you from living your best life—medical cannabis may be a treatment option for you. If you are a patient with one or more diagnosed qualifying health conditions, you may become certified as a medical marijuana cardholder in Washington.

The alternative medicine patient services offered by Holistic Evaluations include health evaluations for Washington medical marijuana cards. Dr. John Gillman is a board-certified physician who makes patients feel comfortable and cared for. Gillman, MD has extensive experience in pain management therapies. He provides health evaluations required for the Washington medical cannabis application process.

What are the Qualifying Health Conditions Needed to Become a Washington MMJ Cardholder?

Before a patient can apply to become a registered medical marijuana cardholder in Washington, they must demonstrate that they have at least one of the qualifying health conditions. Qualifying health conditions are determined by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) for patient eligibility.

Some of the qualifying health conditions are formal patient diagnoses, such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In cases where the patient does not have one of the qualifying health conditions, the Washington State Department of Health can be petitioned, with support from the patient’s physician, to consider alternative symptoms or diagnoses that may benefit from therapeutic cannabis treatments.

Can I Grow My Own Medical Marijuana in Washington if I am a Cardholder?

Washington is one of the few states that permits registered patients to grow their own medical cannabis. This decision is to help patients who benefit from long-term therapeutic use of medical marijuana cope with the cost of cannabis. Each adult patient is permitted to cultivate six marijuana plants for personal use only. It is illegal for patients to give or sell privately cultivate cannabis to anyone else.

If there is more than one medical marijuana cardholder in a residence, the maximum number of plants is 15 for the household. Patients have a legal responsibility to protect indoor or outdoor grown medical cannabis from unauthorized access or theft.

Three-Step Pre-Evaluation Procedure for Patients

Before you schedule an appointment for your medical marijuana card health evaluation, you will need to gather some information and fill out some forms. This allows the physician to review your health history and determine whether or not medical cannabis will provide a health benefit for you.

There are three forms you will be required to download and fill out and return before your appointment at our location in Kent Washington:

  1. The Holistic Evaluations Patient Intake Form
  2. The Patient Consent Form
  3. The Medical Records Release Form

Patients will be required to present government-issued photo identification. Contact our team at Holistic Evaluations to discuss other types of health information you may be required to bring with you to your appointment.
