Do I Need to Have a Medical Appointment to Get my Marijuana Card in Rhode Island?

One of the most critical steps in registering patients in the Rhode Island medical marijuana program is a mandatory health evaluation. While medical cannabis can be an effective and safe alternative for symptom management, a health review helps improve patient safety.

Before your scheduled appointment with one of our physicians at US Med Card Rhode Island, you will be required to provide medical records that confirm your current diagnoses. You must be diagnosed with one of the qualifying health conditions to be eligible.

During your health evaluation, our US Med Card Rhode Islandphysician will review your current diagnoses. The doctor will also discuss your present symptoms. If you have severe chronic pain, they may ask you to complete a pain inventory to better understand your pain symptoms’ duration and frequency.

At the end of your medical marijuana card health evaluation with US Med Card Rhode Island, if the physician feels that cannabis may be a safe therapeutic option for you, a recommendation letter will be issued. This certifies that the physician did not find any reason to deny your request based on your current health condition(s).

How Long Does it Take to Get a Rhode Island Medical Marijuana Card?

Once you have completed your health evaluation for your medical marijuana card, you will receive a signed letter from the practitioner. Patients must upload the letter from the US Med Card Rhode Island physician to the Rhode Island Department of Health patient portal.

After you have completed your online application with the Rhode Island DOH, it will go through a review process conducted by the Department of Health. Many patients receive their medical marijuana cards (if approved) within 2-3 weeks.
