Both recreational and medical marijuana is available in Michigan. Medical cannabis may provide relief for patients who have debilitating chronic health conditions, pain, and symptom management needs that are not met by prescription medications.

Dr. Lisa from Apothecare in Ann Arbor, Michigan provides online health evaluations. Patients who want to apply for certification as a medical cannabis user in MI must complete a health evaluation to receive a recommendation from a medical practitioner. The evaluation is conducted privately via video call. Dr. Lisa will review your health history, current symptoms, and prescription medications.

If Dr. Lisa completes the evaluation and feels that medical cannabis may have some therapeutic benefit for your wellness needs, she will provide a letter of recommendation for you. This is the first step in getting a medical marijuana card online in Michigan. The letter of recommendation is sent to the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA).

There is a consultation fee that is payable for the online medical evaluation. The state of Michigan can take up to 6 weeks to process and mail you your medical marijuana card. However, you can legally possess cannabis 21 days after the MRA has taken payment. Patients who do not receive their card should contact the Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA).

If Recreational Cannabis is Legal In Michigan Why Should I Get an MMJ Card?

There are a number of advantages to having a medical marijuana card in Michigan if you are a patient who has a qualifying health condition. Not everyone can get an MMJ card, but if your symptoms or chronic health diagnosis qualifies, it can save you a lot of money.
Medical marijuana dispensaries provide high-quality and regulated cannabis and CBD products at a discount for patients. Medical marijuana cardholders in Michigan do not have to pay the 10% excise tax that is charged on Adult-Use or recreational purchases.

Medical cannabis dispensaries are focused on patient care. They create a patient profile, with communication from your physician, to suggest strains and product intake methods that are customized for your needs. Medical cannabis dispensaries are also an “essential service,” like a conventional pharmacy, and are not impacted by health emergency closures (providing online ordering and curbside pick-up or delivery).

Can I Get Advice on Different Types of Medical Marijuana from the Doctor?

Every patient has unique health and symptom management needs. Depending on the symptom profile of the patient, Dr. Lisa may suggest certain types of medical cannabis and strains that could be beneficial for a variety of health symptoms, including:

There is an expansive list of health conditions that may qualify a patient from Michigan to get a medical marijuana card. Learn more about the other types of health diagnoses or symptoms.
