As Saint Paul, Minn., residents, patients dealing with debilitating health problems can take advantage of Minnesota’s MMJ program. Program members need to find somewhere to buy their medicine after they get the green light from the state. We’ll give you the tools you need to find a dispensary near you and understand what you can buy there.

Registering for Minnesota Cannabis Medicine

Only patients who have one of the health problems approved by the state can enter Minnesota’s MMJ database. They must be an adult over 18 or have a caregiver who handles their medicine. Also, the program accepts state residents only.

Minnesota’s registration process is similar to other states’ signup procedures. Get approval from your doctor, enter your information online and you’ll receive an email clearing you to buy medicine. You don’t have to carry a medical marijuana card — the state keeps your info in a registry that officials and cannabis patient center staff can reference.

The Stock at a Minnesota Dispensary

According to state MMJ laws, not every kind of medicine can be sold at a dispensary. It forbids the use of edibles and medicine in the form of the original marijuana plant. This means that you can buy the following three types of medicine:

  • Liquids, such as tinctures and oils
  • Pills, such as CBD capsules
  • Vape products, such as cartridges and pens

Topical treatments like lotions will be allowed as of August 2017. Each kind of product is taken differently and affects each patient uniquely.

Cannabis Patient Centers in Minnesota

Unlike other states, Minnesota implements cannabis patient centers instead of dispensaries. These places manufacture and sell medicine to eligible patients. Two companies, Minnesota Medical Solutions and Leafline Labs, produce and distribute the state’s medical marijuana.

Each company has four locations, making eight total cannabis patient centers. To find the closest one to you, check out our directory of Minnesota providers.
