Safer Ways to Medicate: Cannabis Tinctures

Don’t want to go up in smoke? Looking for a more discrete way to medicate? Cannabis tinctures are a great alternative. A tincture is a medicinal extract in an alcohol solution, in which the alcohol is used to extract and preserve the resins and other soluble material from the plant. It’s also a great way to repurpose the buds after using a vaporizer (yes, there’s still cannabinoids to extract from weed that’s been vaporized!)
Many patients report experiencing pain relief by using medical marijuana tinctures, but most report no “high” effect. One chronic pain patient named Debbie from California recently reached out to tell us about her experience with tinctures, and here’s what she had to say:
“I’ve been using cannabis for pain relief for years but I just tried your cannabis tincture recipe and wanted to tell you how great it worked! Usually my pain is worse at night and it keeps me from sleeping, which of course snowballs and extends my discomfort throughout the day. But if I smoke at night it helps the pain but I find that it keeps me awake and makes my mind go wild, even if I use an indica. But the tincture is so mild and wonderful, it lulls me to sleep like a sweet dream and I stay asleep. All night! No more waking up in the middle of the night. And although it makes me sleepy it doesn’t make me feel ‘high.’ I would definitely recommend it to other patients looking for nighttime pain relief.”
If you live in a state that allows marijuana dispensaries, many dispensaries will sell tinctures by the bottle. But if you are able to legally grow your own meds or want to use your own buds or repurpose vaporizer leftovers, you can follow this cannabis tincture recipe to make your own. Making a marijuana tincture is easy but takes several weeks. But we promise it’ll be worth the wait. Happy medicating!
