Medical Marijuana Patients: Who Uses Medical Cannabis?

Posted by Jason Draizin on 08/06/2010 in Medical Marijuana Patient Stories

Medical marijuana is an effective and versatile medicine that is used by patients from all walks of life across America and around the world, including Tony A., a 57 year old retired social worker from Ontario, Canada.

Tony is a quadriplegic who suffers from spastic muscles. Many quadriplegic patients experience muscle spasms, which is a symptom of the damaged spinal cords inability to properly relay remaining nerve signals to the brain.

Tony underwent surgery and tried several medications, to alleviate the spasms but nothing seemed to help. But after hearing about medical cannabis from the media approximately 5 years ago, he decided to give marijuana a try, and found that it helped tremendously.

“The medical marijuana is by far the best thing I have tried to relieve the muscle spasms I was getting from my quadriplegia,” said Tony. “Unfortunately though, marijuana has such a negative connotation in many people's minds.”

Hopefully, as more and more states legalize medical marijuana, and more people become aware of how effective cannabis can be for patients like Tony, the negative stigma associated with marijuana will be eliminated.

In addition to quadriplegia, medical cannabis helps patients manage symptoms from cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, glaucoma and countless others.
