How to Get Medical Marijuana in Rhode Island

Step One: Be Diagnosed with a Qualifying Medical Condition

The first step in getting medical marijuana is to obtain medical records indicating you suffer from a qualifying medical condition. Under Rhode Island medical marijuana law, medical cannabis may be used for the following conditions:

Cancer, Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following: Cachexia or wasting syndrome; Severe, debilitating, chronic pain; Severe nausea; Seizures, including those characteristic of epilepsy; or Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristic of multiple sclerosis or Crohn's disease; or agitation of Alzheimer's Disease.

Step Two: Get a Marijuana Recommendation from a Qualified Doctor

Step Three: Get a Marijuana Card

The final step in getting medical marijuana in Rhode Island is registering with the state Department of Public Safety Health to receive a registry identification card (aka medical marijuana card) from the Rhode Island Medical Marijuana Program. Patients can download an application here


Step Four: Grow Your Own Medical Cannabis
