Posted by Jason Draizin on 09/05/2010 in How to Get Medical Marijuana

In 2004, Montana became the 10th state to pass a medical marijuana law. Initiative 148, aka the Montana Medical Marijuana Act, allows patients to use cannabis to alleviate symptoms of specific qualified medical conditions. If you’d like to get medical marijuana in Montana, simply follow these few steps:

Step One: Be Diagnosed with an Approved Medical Condition

In order to use cannabis under MI medical marijuana law, you must first be diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition. These include: cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, or a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces one or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe and chronic pain; Severe nausea; Seizures, including those characteristic of epilepsy; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristic of Crohn’s disease or multiple sclerosis.

Step Two: Get a Marijuana Recommendation from a Qualified Physician

The next step in becoming a medical marijuana patient in Montana is to obtain a written recommendation (also known as marijuana prescription) from a physician that is licensed in the state of Montana stating that you have been diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition and that the potential benefits of the medical use of marijuana would likely outweigh the health risks.
