Congress Just Officially Ended Federal Ban On Medical Marijuana

The recent passing of the contentious $1.1Trillion spending bill that will not only keep the US government from down, also cracked down on the Washington DC referendum that legalized recreational marijuana, while quietly yet effectively lifting the federal ban on medical marijuana. In the details of the 1,603-page document, a provision prohibits federal agents from raiding retail medical marijuana operations in states that have legalized medical marijuana.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, the measure’s co-author, told the LA Times that the passage represents “the first time in decades that the federal government has curtailed its oppressive prohibition of marijuana.”
The passing of the bill also ensures that the next elected president will not be able to backtrack and begin re-attacking medical marijuana operations.
The full text of the measure reads as follows,
“Sec. 538. None of the funds made available in this Act to the Department of Justice may be used, with respect to the States of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin, to prevent such States from implementing their own State laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana. Sec. 539. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used in contravention of section 7606 (“Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research”) of the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Public Law 113-79) by the Department of Justice or the Drug Enforcement Administration.”
Upon hearing the news, founder and CEO of MarijuanaDoctors.com, Jason Draizin, shared his feelings that “The passage of this measure will ensure that the prohibitory ways of pot are on their way to being well and truly a thing of the past. The passing of the bill is a sure sign that soon medical marijuana will be accessible to patients nationwide, as the non-legal states will feel encouraged to join the medical marijuana movement with the lack of federal threat looming over their heads.” Draizin went on further to say that “MarijuanaDoctors.com feels that this step is a giant leap forward for medical marijuana, because this proves the federal governments acknowledgement of marijuana as a medicine, which contradicts the requirement of a Schedule 1 controlled substance stating that such drugs have “no medical use”, and that can only mean that the next step will be to finally give into the will of the people, and reschedule cannabis.”
