“Big Rehab” is Making “Big Bucks” Thanks To Prohibition

No doubt you have recently heard the exaggerated claims that marijuana shouldn’t be legalized, because it would re-create the issue of “Big Pharma”, in the form of “Big Marijuana” — anti-legalization advocates claim that the legalization of cannabis would create a predatory cannabis industry, that would monstrously emerge from the legalized cannabis industry, ultimately preying on the country’s youth and population as a whole, entrapping them into the web of addiction based on lies, trickery, and deception.
Now while one would be inclined to think that these concerns are born of sincere interest in public health and safety, the truth however, reveals the motives instead, to be born of the financial profitability, and survivability of an industry that depends health of the illegality of cannabis, in order to survive — “Big Rehab”, is an industry enjoying the financial benefits of having marijuana illegal, as much as the prison and correctional institutions. And like the prison and correctional institutions, drug rehabs, rely heavily on the funds generated from incarcerating non-violent drug offenders, and sending them to mandatory drug rehabilitation programs.
This latest prohibitionist propaganda, is the brainless-brainchild of a group, that seems to be attempting to triangulate a re-invented form of prohibition that would ultimately replace the existing drug war model, with a kinder, more gentle version, instead — Smart Approaches to Marijuana, otherwise known as “Project SAM”, is headed by former adviser to the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Kevin Sabet. Project SAM, clearly sees that the American nation as a whole, think that the war on drugs has been a colossal failure, and do not believe in the existing drug policy, however, clearly intent on derailing the legalization initiative, Project SAM would like to see the current policy, simply replaced, with another one.
While Project SAM claims to be against the criminalization of marijuana users, agreeing that non-violent drug offenders shouldn’t be given lifelong criminal records, especially given that the majority of offenders are young people, from impoverished communities, the group are still in support of criminalizing the anyone caught growing, or selling.
Project SAM’s solution for locking away cannabis offenders, is instead to institute “screenings” and brief interventions”, for adults who are found to be in possession of marijuana. The logic is basically, instead of throwing the book at non-violent drug offenders, we should instead force them into mandatory rehab.
Another key fact that Project SAM have failed to include in their propaganda rhetoric, is that the board members of Project SAM originally originate, from the drug rehabilitation and treatment industry.
Proof yet again, that where there is smoke, there is also fire — however, short-sighted and sneaky Project SAM, failed to realize that the American people are not stupid, and now that the blinkers have been removed from our eyes, we can plainly see a “con” coming, from a mile away… The cannabis movement will not stop legalization efforts, until prohibition is well and truly dead. We will not allow another nightmare to pop-up in it’s place. Because, we believe that all adults should have the right to use cannabis, legally.
