Hypoglycemia is an abnormally diminished content of glucose levels in the bloodstream. The term hypoglycemia literally means "low sugar blood". An inadequate supply of glucose to the brain can result in an impairment of regular functions. Effects can range from mild dysphoria or lead to a more serious concern such as seizures, unconsciousness and sometimes permanent brain damage or death.

Medical Marijuana and Hypoglycemia

The most common forms of hypoglycemia occur as a complication of any treatment of diabetes mellitus with insulin or oral medications. This condition is considered less common in non-diabetic individuals, but has the tendency to occur at any given age. Among the causes would be excessive insulin produced in the body, inborn error of metabolism, medications and poisons, alcohol, hormone deficiencies, prolonged starvation, alterations of metabolism associated with infection and lastly, organ failure.

Medical marijuana can be a great reducer and alleviator of the symptoms that are directly associated with hypoglycemia. Medical marijuana can stabilize an individual's blood sugar, it does not block the body's response to hypoglycemia, it relieves stress and tension placed on the body, can serve as an appetite stimulant, can relieve nausea associated with this condition and relieves stomach pains that an individual may experience throughout the course of this condition.
