Medical Marijuana and Genital Herpes

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection that is caused by the herpes simplex virus. This condition affects the skin or mucous membranes of the genitals and is caused directly by the simplex virus. Patients may become infected with herpes if your skin, vagina, penis or mouth comes into direct contact with someone who already has herpes. A patient is most likely to get herpes if they touch the skin of someone who has herpes sores, blisters or a rash. However, the herpes simplex virus can still be spread even if there are no sores or other symptoms present. There are certain cases where sometimes a patient does not even know they are infected.

Many people who are infected with the herpes simplex virus have never had sores or they have extremely mild symptoms that go unnoticed or are mistaken for insect bites. However, if signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak, they can become quite severe and require proper attention. The first outbreak of the virus tends to occur within two days to two weeks of being initially infected. General symptoms of this condition include decreased appetite, fevering, general sick feeling or malaise, muscle aches in the lower back, buttocks, thighs or knees and a swollen and tender lymph node in the groin.

Along with many other conditions, medical marijuana can serve as a great alternative treatment option if you are not into prescription opiates or are looking to try something new. THC has been shown to modulate the immune system's response time and enhance the lymphocyte function. The use of THC can provide patients with relief when suffering from the herpes simplex virus and can slow the replication of the extracellular signals. The other advantage to medical marijuana is that there are no drug related side effects associated with the use of THC as compared to other options intended to treat this condition.
