Medical Marijuana and Darier's Disease

Darier's disease, often referred to as Keratosis follicularis, is an autosomal dominantly inherited genodermatosis that is characterized by greasy, hyperkeratotic papules in regions on that body that may result in nail abnormalities and mucous membrane changes. The severity of this disease varies over time, and symptoms usually appear in late childhood or early adulthood. This disease is caused by mutations in the ATP2A2 gene and is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion.

Medical marijuana can be a great treatment option for those who suffer from Darier's disease. Cannabinoids may attenuate allergic responses, blocking CB2 receptors in the skin to lead to a decrease in inflammation of the epidermis. Patients who have reactions similar to eczema see well tolerated results and alleviation of the scratching and uncomfortable feeling that is associated with it. There is also exceptional evidence that cannabinoids may be able to inhibit malignant tumors, however synthetic cannabinoids that are more potent than THC have only proven more effective.
